Conservation priorities for African Vigna species: Unveiling Angola’s diversity hotspots

چکیده
It is widely recognized that the conservation of Crop Wild Relatives (CWR) in their wild habitats fundamental to ensure continuous supply novel genetic material, crucial for future crop improvement. Vigna unguiculata (cowpea) and V. subterranea (bambara groundnut) are amongst most significant African legumes as sources food fodder. In this study we investigated diversity species Angola, identify hotspot areas situ conservation, thus underpin security Sub-Saharan Africa. Based on four criteria (i.e. potential utilization improvement, threat status, ethnobotanical value, geographical distribution) prioritize CWR actions Angola. Our results reveal 28 occur two which endemic ( mendesii ramanniana ). These unevenly distributed across country, with greater dominance central-north western areas, where (Saurimo, Serra da Chela, N’dalatando, Huambo) identified. However, gaps current strategies highlighted by our results, since hotspots remain unprotected only nine recorded protected areas. Moreover, light fact one accession collected Angola exists genebanks globally at present, recommend a targeted seed collecting programme support management ex plant resources calls attention together Zambia, has highest richness Africa, provides new data tools sustainable use these

Global Diversity Hotspots and Conservation Priorities for Sharks
Sharks are one of the most threatened groups of marine animals, as high exploitation rates coupled with low resilience to fishing pressure have resulted in population declines worldwide. Designing conservation strategies for this group depends on basic knowledge of the geographic distribution and diversity of known species. So far, this information has been fragmented and incomplete. Here, we h...
متن کاملMarine biodiversity hotspots and conservation priorities for tropical reefs.
Coral reefs are the most biologically diverse of shallow water marine ecosystems but are being degraded worldwide by human activities and climate warming. Analyses of the geographic ranges of 3235 species of reef fish, corals, snails, and lobsters revealed that between 7.2% and 53.6% of each taxon have highly restricted ranges, rendering them vulnerable to extinction. Restricted-range species a...
متن کاملGlobal priorities for conservation across multiple dimensions of mammalian diversity.
Conservation priorities that are based on species distribution, endemism, and vulnerability may underrepresent biologically unique species as well as their functional roles and evolutionary histories. To ensure that priorities are biologically comprehensive, multiple dimensions of diversity must be considered. Further, understanding how the different dimensions relate to one another spatially i...

In this study, 21 microsatellite markers were used to genotype 196 Egyptian local chickens obtained from Fayoumi (n = 35), Dandarawy (n = 30), Baladi (n = 29), Sinai (n = 30), El-Salam (n = 36), and Golden Montazah (n = 36) strains. The results were compared to two pure commercial chicken populations reared in Japan-White Leghorn (n = 42) and Rhode Island Red (n = 43). A total of 162 alleles we...
متن کاملDistribution patterns of Convolvulaceae in Iran: priorities for conservation
Assessing priorities is the most important action in conservation programs. Rudimentary, mapping of diversity, and distribution patterns have been used to set priorities on diverse scales. The distribution patterns of plant taxa, largely reflect an actual ecological niche. Convolvulaceae s.str exhibits cosmopolitan dispersal of diverse life forms and includes 50–60 genera comprising 1600–1700 s...
